Nema Rivers LeCuyer is the founding director of Rivers Academy and has been an educator for 27 years. In 1985, Ms. LeCuyer received her Master's Equivalency in Special Education. Ms. Rivers-LeCuyer's vision and dedication to excellence in education has remained steadfast since the beginning of her teaching career in 1978 Upon retiring from the public school sector, she turned her energy and commitment toward a student population that required a very different method of learning. This led to the founding of Rivers Academy in 1997. She has been awarded the "Excellence in Education Award" from the New Mexico Independent Schools, the "Achievement in Education Award" from the Optimists and was nominated for "Outstanding Teacher in New Mexico". Nema knows education, but more importantly, she knows the children at the school, their learning styles, their interests and their capabilities and will oversee the creation of a science program that takes into account all of these factors. The theme and arts based curriculum at Rivers Academy includes solid instruction in English, Science, Math, Social Studies and Art, as well as Home Economics and Physical Education. The staff includes certified teachers, a Speech/Language Pathologist and two social workers. Student and family counseling are an integral part of the services at Rivers Academy. Students also have access via our computers to a reading program provided by the Therapeutic Reading Center of Las Cruces. |
